Katie has been rated as a leading junior for matrimonial finance work by the legal directories (Chambers UK, Legal 500 and Legal Experts) for many years. She is currently ranked Tier 1 by the Legal 500, and Band 1 by Chambers UK. She was shortlisted as Family Junior Barrister of the Year by Chambers UK in 2008 and 2015.
She is regularly instructed to appear against QC’s and other senior juniors in complex international cases, in the High Court and Central Family Court. A tough negotiator and “charming advocate”, she quickly wins the confidence of her clients and strives for the best possible outcome. Her advice is sensible and pragmatic, and she has a reputation among her instructing solicitors of being highly responsive and easy to deal with.
Her work includes financial applications on divorce and on civil partnership dissolution, Schedule 1 financial applications for children, and representing trustees caught up in financial cases. She also drafts pre-nuptial, post-nuptial, and cohabitation agreements.
Much of Katie’s practice takes place away from the public eye, resolving complex, often high-profile cases at private FDR’s. She is also happy to represent clients in Arbitrations, should the case be suitable.
"She's ferociously hard-working, leaves no stone unturned, and goes about her business in quite a human, robust, common-sense way. She's also very good with clients, and makes them feel they're being looked after." (Chambers UK 2016)
“Outstanding…” (Legal 500 2014)
“Katie was absolutely excellent. I thought she brought the perfect blend of intellectual acuity, toughness, fairness, and common sense…. her closing speech was very good indeed. If she applies for silk and needs a referee, she should bear me in mind. ” (QC client, 2014)
